Peanut butter pancakes are great to make on a Sunday morning. Add some bacon or sausage and it's the perfect Sunday morning breakfast treat.

What would make these pancakes even better? Try some peanut butter syrup or some jelly syrup.

If you add chocolate chips to the batter you can make peanut butter chocolate pancakes.

Getting creative is always fun, what else do you like to add to your pancakes? Apples, blueberries, Netulla? Try them and let me know how they turned out.

If you would rather make your pancakes from scratch, my mom has an excellent recipe to make pancakes from scratch that I would like to share with you.


Preparation:

You will need a large mixing bowl, a one cup plus a 3/4 cup plus a 1/2 cup and a 1/4 cup measuring cup, a ladle or large spoon, a flipper to flip the pancakes, a griddle or large frying pan

Gather Your Ingredients:

 Make sure you have everything before you begin.

  • 1 cup complete pancake mix (I use Aunt Jemima)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup margarine, melted (this will make your pancakes moist)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter or chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1 small banana, cut into small slices (optional)

Creating Your Peanut Butter Pancakes Masterpiece:

  1. Mix together pancake mix, water and margarine until well blended.
  2. Add the peanut butter and mix well.
  3. Fold in peanut butter or chocolate chips if you are adding them.
  4. Heat griddle or frying pan until a small drop of water sizzles when dropped onto it.
  5. When griddle is hot, use your ladle or spoon and pour a good amount of the batter onto it to the size of pancakes you would like (about a 3 inch diameter is good).
  6. When edges of pancakes turn golden brown flip them and continue to cook until the second side is golden brown.
  7. Remove them from the griddle and continue with the rest of the batter.

Garnish with banana slices and one of the syrups listed below.


Syrups to Add to Your Pancakes

Peanut Butter Syrup

  • 1/2 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. Karo Syrup
  • 1/4 cup cream
  • 2 tbsp. butter

Place all ingredients in a saucepan and heat to a boil. Remove from heat and cool slightly, then add in milk up to one cup to thin syrup out to a good, syrupy consistency.

Store in the fridge and serve over ice cream, waffles, pancakes, or on crepes. It will store well and will last a few weeks.

If you are a fan of honey, try exchanging the sugar for honey. It will make a great alternative and really taste sweet.

Jelly Syrup

Try some Peanut Butter and Jelly Pancakes. Make the pancakes as above and try this excellent recipe for Jelly syrup.

  • 1 cup grape jelly
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  1. Heat the grape jelly in a small saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Dissolve the cornstarch in 2 tablespoons water in a small bowl.
  3. When the jelly has become liquid, stir in the cornstarch mixture.
  4. Simmer until a syrup consistency is reached, about 5 to 10 minutes.

Add this jelly syrup to your peanut butter pancakes for an awesome treat.

Pancakes from Scratch

Want to make your pancakes from scratch? Try my mom's recipe, it's delicious.

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 3 tbsp. melted butter
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

Mix all ingredients together and cook as above.
